The dust has settled after the morning rounds at Murray Downs Golf and Country Club with Inverell’s Brett Drewitt the clubhouse leader after producing an error-free 66 in perfect conditions.
The 33-year-old jumped to the top of the leaderboard to be in contention for the Kel Nagle Cup with one of the day’s best rounds at -5.

His round was matched by former US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy who was vintage in his -5 round to be at -3 and guaranteed to be here for the weekend.
Victoria’s Josh Younger, the 2019 champion in this event, had the morning’s best round of 65 which included seven birdies and a bogey on the par-four sixth to be at -3 for the tournament in 21st place.
Kyle Michael (-5), Curtis Luck (-4) and new dad Jordan Zunic (-4) also featured among the morning’s best rounds with the score of -1 for the tournament currently sitting at equal 47th. Based on this morning’s rounds the cut is likely to be around even par or even -1.
Jye Halls has maintained his position as the leading amateur, at -1 through three holes this afternoon and -3 for the tournament, three shots ahead of Abel Eduard who is at even par for his opening two rounds.
11.30am: Bounces Going Brett’s Way
Inverell’s Brett Drewitt has been solid this morning with three birdies through 14 holes (starting on the 10th), having pencilled in red numbers on the 12th, 16th and 4th holes to be at -6 and in a share of third.
Queenslander Aaron Pike has also had three birdies this morning to be at -3 for the tournament and now into a tie for 16th.
Victorian Geoff Ogilvy has turned back the clock to be three-under this morning to play himself back into the tournament. The 2006 US Open champion punctuating his bogey-free round with an eagle on the par-five 16th, and a birdie on the par-four 4th to be at -1 and a genuine chance of making the cut.
Josh Younger the 2019 NSW Open winner has roared back into the event with a two-under front nine (34), but has followed up with four birdies through the back nine to be at -2 for the tournament.
10.30am: Mountcastle, Zunic make their move
Kerry Mountcastle has a share of the lead midway through his second round here at Murray Downs.
The Kiwi young gun has joined LIV Golf superstar Cameron Smith at the top of the leaderboard at seven under par.
Despite a bogey on his first hole of the day, Mountcastle rolled in birdies on the 2nd and 4th holes to turn for home at six under. He joined Smith at minus seven with his third birdie of the day at the short par-three 11th.
The big mover of the day is Jordan Zunic, who is now at six under and into a tie for third.
Playing alongside Brett Drewitt (currently at minus five) Zunic has kept his card error free thus far. Starting on the 10th this morning, he rolled in birdies on the 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th to turn in 32 shots. Back to back birdies on the 1st and 3rd has got him to within a shot of the lead held by Mountcastle and Smith.
7.30 am: CUT DAY: Time to make a move at Murray Downs
Welcome to Round Two of the Ford NSW Open at the Murray Downs Golf and Country Club in NSW’s far west, where the motto for the day is: It’s time to make your move.
We’re in for a cracking day of golf, with the two marquee players of this tournament, Ripper GC mates Cam Smith and Lucas Herbert, paired up for a shootout around lunchtime, with a swag of Australia’s most talented players within striking distance.
The weather should reach a maximum of 28 degrees with light winds out of the south-east east, making conditions suitable for some low scoring as we approach the cut this afternoon.
