Trio Take Professional Plunge

NSW State team mates Nathan Barbieri, Josh Armstrong, and James Conran have signed off on their amateur careers and will make their professional debut in this week’s Geoff King Motors North Coast Open at Coffs Harbour Golf Club.

In what was to be their final year in the amateur ranks destroyed by COVID, now is the right time for the trio to step into the pay-for-play ranks.

Barbieri’s amateur career was a whirlwind one with a string of impressive finishes both here and abroad including runner-up finishes in the Australian & NSW amateurs, and the Players Championship in the United States. A win in earlier this year in the Avondale Amateur against an international field underlined his growing ability at the elite level.

Josh Armstrong leaves the amateur ranks with a record which would be the envy of many. After entering the NSW High-Performance Squad in 2016, Josh became the highest-ranked Australian Junior on the World Amateur Golf Rankings. The highlight of Armstrong’s time as an amateur was undoubtedly his selection in the 2017 International Junior President Cup Team which played at Liberty National.

With a pedigree like James Conran’s, it was only going to be a matter of time before the talent from Orange in Central West NSW turned his attention to the play-for-pay ranks.

The son of long-time Japanese Tour Member, Steve, James has been a member of the NSW men’s team for the past two years. A prodigious winner around the central west, Conran has also had a string of impressive finishes both domestically and on the international scene. He finished his amateur time by claiming the recent Pymble Golf Club Champion ship.

The Geoff King Motors North Coast Open Begins Thursday at Coffs Harbour Golf Club. Entry is Free.
