NSW Open RQ Series is back

The 2020 AVJennings NSW Open Regional Qualifying Series is back on the tournament Calendar.

With COVID-19 restrictions easing, and regional travel for any reason permitted form June 1st, Golf NSW in consultation with some of the host clubs, has rescheduled some of the dates for the important events.

First off will be the rescheduled Rich River Open Amateur on the weekend of July 25 and 26th, followed by the Goulburn Cup (26-27 Sept), The Links Shell Cove Open ( Oct 4-5) and finally, the rescheduled Cessnock Cup at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley Resort on October 10 & 11.

Golf NSW Events Manager Olivia Wilson said the events were crucial to the host clubs and their communities as well as those golfers chasing a spot in this year’s AVJennings NSW Open.

“The schedule of tournaments for the remainder of the year is certainly shaping up as a busy one for the State’s golfers,” Ms Wilson said.

“It is vital we can fit as many of our championships and qualifiers into the remainder of the 2020 Calendar.

“Getting these events back on the calendar benefits not only our clubs, but also the regional communities who host these tournaments.”

The 2019 AVJennings Regional Qualifying series provided five talented golfers with a place in the championship field for their efforts.

Will Bayliss proved too strong at the Forbes Open to snare his spot, while Victorian Lukas Michel (who would later win the US Mid-Amateur Championship) made the trek to Rich River a worthwhile one when he took out the Rich River Open Amateur.

Josh Gadd sealed his place in a thriller at The Vintage, while Ryde Parramatta’s Steven Vaile sealed his spot with a big win in the Goulburn Cup.

The final RQ spot was one by the impressive Links Shell Cove Veteran Grahame Stinson in a thrilling playoff over Castle Hill’s Jackson Bugdalski. At Age 52, Stinson also grabbed the start in the Lincoln Place NSW Senior Open for his efforts.
