Chip shots: It’s a dog’s life

Jordan Zunic continues his quest for the Kel Nagle Cup today with some significant others following him, including his fiancee Olivia Marlow who he will be marrying in three week’s time, his mum Tania, and – perhaps his biggest fan – Arlo the labradoodle.

The 27-year-old former NZ Open winner from the Illawarra teed off this morning at -3, with Arlo walking the fairways and keeping an eye on things.

“Jordan had him for a couple of days on his own when we first got him,” said Olivia of the five-month-old canine.

“That’s why they are so close.”

Zunic is using the AVJennings NSW Open to sharpen his game ahead of the Australian summer of golf, but is still in the hunt here at Twin Creeks, especially if he can get his driver working.

“There’s a lot of birdies out there on this course, it’s just a matter of being in the right position and taking advantage of it.”

Martin gets a hole lotta love

Andrew Martin had a hole in one on the second.

Andrew Martin isn’t easily excited, and when he holed out his nine-iron for the third ace of his professional career yesterday, nothing changed.

“He doesn’t say much usually,” said his caddie, Pat Kelly, a pennant player at Stonecutters Ridge.

“He did get a bit excited when that happened though.”

Bendigo-born Martin, 35, spun the ball back in the hole on the 144m par-three second, but didn’t actually see it go in. Spectators confirmed the hole-in-one which took him to two-under deep into his opening round.

Unlike most golfers who might remove the magic ball from play and eventually place it into the trophy room, Martin was non-plussed, booming it down the third fairway.

Style is everything when you’re a Movember man

It’s Movember, and that can only mean one thing – moustaches.

Like the magnificent pirate-like creation on West Australian golfer Daniel Fox. Since 2013 Fox has raised more than $4000 for the charity which aims to raise funds for men’s health.

Fox says he can trim this ripper of a ‘tache with just a normal shaver. Having great touch helps.

“Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men’s health, and this Movember I’m joining them,” Fox’s Movember profile reads.

“Together we can make a difference for men’s health – in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. Help me stop men dying too young.”

Fox, who is the defending Queensland PGA champion, is yet to give an official name to this masterpiece of grooming, probably the best of his creations over the years but is open to suggestions during the NSW Open at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club this week.

Leave your suggestions and donations at his Movember donation page here.
