It’s not unusual to hear golfers talk about being out of their comfort zone but they’re usually referring to being near the top of the leaderboard.

For Rory Bourke and Rick Kulacz, the cliche took on a whole new meaning during a promotional event ahead of the AVJennings NSW Open at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club in greater western Sydney.

The golfers spent a day experiencing some of the top attractions Penrith has to offer including a thrilling session in a skydiving simulator at the appropriately named iFly centre.

Designed to replicate the experience of free fall skydiving in an indoor wind tunnel, the pair were unanimous in proclaiming it a bucket list experience.

“It certainly takes you out of your comfort zone,” said a still buzzing Bourke after the session.

“You’re only up there for 45 seconds but wow. It was weird. It was my first time in the tube, and it was mayhem.

“You’re just getting blown straight up in the air. I think they turned the fans up while I was in there and I was about 20 metres off the ground, and my stomach was churning…

“Just an incredible experience. You come out, and you have trouble just walking around for a few minutes. Awesome.”

Kulacz was equally effusive in his praise for the popular iFly facility though admitted go-karting at Luddenham was more his speed.

“I’d definitely do it again,” he said. “But what a great city Penrith is. Everything’s so close, and we just had a cracking morning.

“Started off with a couple of great coffees then the iFly then finished off the day at the Luddenham Raceway racing a few the go-karts.

“It was good to get one up on Bourkey and get past him a few times.”

Bourke and Kulacz tee off in the $400,000 at the prestigious Twin Creeks course tomorrow.

The tournament is one of the most revered in Australian golf and boasts an honour roll that includes legendary figures such as Greg Norman, Ian Baker-Finch and Craig Parry.
