Players have been able to take advantage of more than one opportunity to qualify, and enter as many of the tournaments as they wish, however they have been required to enter each event separately.

Dubbo’s Lachie Jones was the first to qualify for the NSW Open after taking out the Regional Qualifier at Moree Golf Club on 5-6 May. A week later, Victoria Golf Club's Konrad Ciupek won his way into the Open after qualifying at Forbes Golf Club on 13 May.

Globetrotting Justin Warren dominated the Camden Cup on 19 May firing a sizzling seven under 64 to win by five shots to secure his place; while Moore Park's Hayden Gulliver, a regular competitor in the NSW Open Regional Qualifying series, booked his first pro tournament start after taking out the Thurgoona Bowl on 26-27 May.

Long Reef Golf Club’s Tom Bateman held on by a shot to take the coveted spot for the November's Championship after qualifying at Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club over the June long weekend.

Two more hotly contested regional qualifying events were the Griffith Open held on 8-9 September and the Bathurst Open on 20-21 October.

In addition to the coveted invitations to the NSW Open, players had an opportunity to also qualify for the NSW Men’s Senior Open, with the top two scores from competitors aged over 50 receiving an invitation to compete against the legends of Australian Professional Golf at Thurgoona Country Club Resort in October.

To add some incentive for the handicap golfer to get out and compete as well, the Nett winner from each event secured a spot for themselves and two friends in the NSW Open Championship Pro-AM.

General Manager of Golf, Golf NSW Graeme Phillipson, said the regional qualifying series is a fantastic pathway for the best amateur players in the State to qualify for the NSW Open.

The NSW Open Golf Championship is proudly supported by the NSW Government and Destination NSW, and is a key part of the 2018 Australian Summer of Golf.
